About the Author
Khenpo Yeshe Phuntsok was born in China's Sichuan province in 1971 and educated in both Chinese and Tibetan. In 1986, he entered Larung Gar Buddhist Institute, modern Tibet's most dynamic and fastest-growing Buddhist academy, to study with its renowned founder, Jikme Phuntsok Rinpoche. In 1996, he became a khenpo, a senior teacher, and was assigned to teach Rinpoche's Chinese students. Since then has become a major figure in the revival of Buddhism among Chinese people worldwide. This is his first book in English. He lives in Serthar, China.

Beautiful, helpful book for practitioners of all levels.

Beautifully illustrated and written with heartfelt and compassionate language. I highly recommend for any Vajrayana practitioner who wants to deepen their visualization skills and become familiar with purification practices. May all be well and at ease.

Beautiful book. As it goes with visualization instruction

Beautiful book. As it goes with visualization instruction, I think each lineage varies; in that sense, there are some things omitted from other Kagyupa instructions, but the author seems to be a Nyingmapa. At any rate, if you are practicing Ngondro this is a beautiful text to have. For me it accompanies "Torch of Certainty", "Not for Happiness" and Khenpo Karthar's instruction pamphlet from the KTD bookstore.

Pure Perfection for Pin-up Lovers!

If you're a fan of Bettie Page, Dita von Teese, or Mad Men, you'll love this book. It's basically page after page of magazine covers and (cheesy, kitschy, utterly adorable) photo-spreads from your parent's generation.

For true fans of pin-up culture, you'll probably spot a few photos that you've seen floating about elsewhere on the internet, but most of the artwork was entirely new to me...and I write a blog on lingerie ([...])!

The only sad thing is that this book is no longer published, and you'll have to pay an arm and leg for a volume that cost less than $10 a few months ago. Definitely worth picking up if you find an affordable version though!

I just love the old pinup girls.
THe girls look so sexy in the dresses and stockings. And then, that little bit of wind the dress goes up and you see that bit of stocking and garter and if you are lucky her panties.
now you have same in black and white plus same colour one. I think the book could have been a little bigger than it is so that you can lay the book flat on a table so you can read it. But overall the book is grate for my collection.

Now I know!

This book is obviously written by an enlightened spirit soul living amongst us.
It's not history, it's not religion it's not even 'preachy'. It's a rip roaring debate;
brilliantly argued, darkly funny and completely thought provoking.
Verdict: Richard Dawkins loses.

Dawkins' God Delusion defrocked, debunked and destroyed

The real good news is God loves atheists, too! Yes, really! In Vedic science none are forsaken. Life will never be the same again if this mind blowing book is studied with an open mind. Love it or loathe it, this is a challenging book. Vedic science inspired quantum physics. Bohr, Einstein,Kant, Heisenberg,Tesla, Thoreau, Kant, Schopenhauer and Schr�dinger studied Vedic texts which religious fundamentalists and new atheists are ignorant of.

We all love our cherished beliefs to be confirmed but if you are a dogmatic new atheist seeking confirmation for your prejudices or a religious fundamentalist convinced that your way is the only way, then you will find this book disturbing and not for you.

Using a dialogue format with a healthy dose of common sense and humour, Mayesvara dasa painstakingly and respectfully, considers the criticisms of materialists, demolishing Dawkins' God Delusion. He marshals insights from Vedic science and modern scientific research, to skillfully weave in the Matrix and Shakespeare. This book is a tour de force. Its profound message will enlighten atheists and believers, and delight sci fi and Harry Potter fans. I was impressed with the wide ranging scientific knowledge and masterly use of common sense, logic and rationality to show the hollowness and unscientific claims of Dawkins and those who have been blinded by rhetoric.

I strongly recommend anyone who wants to understand life and obtain release from birth, disease, old age and death to study this magnum opus. This gem of a book tops my gift list. Its compassionate and inspiring message is for both believers and atheists. Dawkins' God Delusion is finally destroyed with panache...but believers should remember to `love thy atheist as thy self' and Richard Dawkins should be sincerely thanked for provoking this book.

Recommended for the curious

I'm not going to submit a lengthy rebuttal of the very negative review already submitted here. Anyone familiar with the controversy around Dawkins and his favourite "delusion" has already heard the lurking assumptions of the scientifically minded: assumptions bearing a strong resemblance to those made by religious fundamentalists.

As the book title suggests, there is an "alternative" to the idea that the the nature of identity, consciousness, and reality must be defined in terms of modern philosophy and the currently popular dogma of rational positivism. That alternative, presented by the Vedas, was already very old when our more modern conceptions were developed, and this book is recalling that original philosophy which makes our modern, rational struggle seem dry and self-centred.

To explain why this is important for individuals and societies would be to recount the content of the book, but I will leave that kind of review to others. Personally I found the book to be a bit of a "retread" (the negative reviewer's word) but only because of my own familiarity with Vedic philosophy. What surprised me again and again were the astonishing quotes from the flag-waving atheists and rationalists... showing them to have a very human bias and a great deal of their own variety of faith.

I would especially recommend this book to anyone with any curiosity about any of the following subjects: whether or not God exists, whether God may or may not have a relationship with Man, and whether or not there is any intelligent design or meaning to the Universe or anything therein. It will be an entertaining and thought-provoking journey for such a reader as they consider both sides of the issue.

As humans our reminder of this duality is there every morning in the mirror staring back at us, when we wake up from sleep. We see two eyes. Just as we know tonight there will be darkness to go to sleep to wake up to light, after that 24-hour cycle. What if Earth has a 2500-year cycle and darkness was first, and then there was light? With the help from many teachers, guides and loved ones in the natural and in spiritual form, I began to take a serious look at what I was thinking and internalizing, ('thought' being the beginning point, Source, male energy and internal ~ you'll learn more about in the book) to move away from the darkness towards love and light. So my reason for writing this book, is to bring awareness through my own personal discovery of asking many questions, which was all, answered, to find the courage to not join into the frequency of darkness where fear, hate, discrimination, destruction, war, rape, killings, separation etc., still currently exists. Much of it is only possible when one is a sincere, committed and disciplined seeker of truth and faithfully follows the light and guidance from within. Interesting read!

Although we have extremely different backgrounds I found Yvonne to be very relatable. She felt as if she was cursed due to some of her life experiences, even though they were different situations at times I felt as if I was reading about myself. She had inspired me to find my own gifts and stop thinking I too am cursed! She includes some poetry which were just absolutely beautiful. Possibly an industry standard Crime Analysis Text

This will be a review of edition 2 as this is the edition I used. There is an edition 3. Given what I know of this book, from attending a presentation by Prof. Boba, and knowing something of her standing within the community; I am confident that edition 3 maintains her standards and improves on the utility of the text.

Crime Analysis with Crime Mapping is the selected text for an online course offering by one of, if not the major professional crime analysis Association. I do not believe that this association is in the business of making product recommendations and I do not have the right to speak for the Association. Even so I suggest that the continued use of this text by this organization constitutes affirmation of the value of Prof. Boba's works beyond any editorial opinion from me.

The field of crime analysis is relatively new, still seeking standards and very much growing. Prof. Boba documents that crime analysis has roots going back at least as far as 1900. The term was defined as far back as 1970s. However the presence of law enforcement positions titled 'crime analyst' and law enforcement units dedicated to crime analysis is still not universal. I have met many people in the field of crime analysis who got there and got there recently by assignment rather than prior training. That is they work in law enforcement somebody walked up to them and said "congratulations you're a crime analyst". This text provides excellent introductory and intermediate level instructions on the vocabulary of crime analysis and practical insights into the practice crime analysis I strongly recommend this as one of a very small number of books that such a lucky person should study when assigned to be a Crime Analyst.

On the chance you are not familiar with the term crime analysis and are looking at this book while thinking of such television shows as NCIS; crime analysis may not be what you think. Crime analysts are not laboratory technicians dealing with machines like mass spectrometers. Crime analyst deal with a variety of issues mostly associated with data. Typical crime analyst duties may range from producing crime bulletins to more highly technical activities such as creating statistical and mapping software. It is not unknown to find the same person working duties across this spectrum in a single workweek.
Based on my own experience and preferences I would have liked more time spent on the subject of crime mapping. This is a differance on a matter of degree rather than substance.

At $60 for this copy and more for the newer edition this is not an inexpensive book. My copy was purchased through Amazon as a secondhand book. To Amazon's credit it arrived in exactly the condition promised. Even with my additional use this copy still has life in it.

It's a textbook, but one of the better ones

As textbooks go, this is on the high end of usefulness. Boba Santos is clearly an expert in the field, so the information is as good as you'd expect. The real winner here is the layout of the information - it flows logically, it's easy to follow. This is a complex field, and this text serves as an excellent primer for an introductory course.

This was a text for a crime analysis class I took and was not interested in prior to. However, the text was really interesting and offered a lot of useful information. I think Rachel Santos did a fantastic job presenting the information as well as the research for it. Anyone looking into crime analysis would benefit from reading this book.
