angry, dazzling - a beacon pointing home

This brief and dazzling essay plumbs the depths of human selfishness to distill an abiding message for this and all times. Lopez has a distinctive ability to appraise the beauty of nature and culture and to highlight the links between the two which can strengthen us as individuals and societies. The message of biophilia, explored by EO Wilson, has not been articulated more strongly.

Nine bucks for a 58-page essay on Kindle is way too much money

Two decades after the book was published, the concentration of wealth in the hands of the few has grown worse. Today the destruction of the physical world Lopez describes is mirrored in the slow destruction of hope in people.
